The activities of the group for research and medieval studies are developed in the bosom of the Department of history of the Faculty of Humanities at the National University of Mar del Plata (pendent), Since it was founded in 1997 it has been, since then, under the direction of Nilda Guglielmi (1997-2024) and co-management, first, of Miguel Ángel Barbero (1997-2005), After Gerardo Rodriguez (2006-2024), And from this year of Gisela Coronado Schwindt (2024-).
The contributions of the MRSG to the field of medieval studies in Argentina are remarkable: The group provides an institutional space where not only established teachers and researchers, but also young scholarship researchers and students, can carry out and develop research projects about a wide variety of topics: such as exegesis and hermeneutics, gender studies, urbanism, tradition and innovation, and history of the senses, among others.
In an agenda characterized by performing multiple conferences, seminars and whether ornot medieval music concerts, highlights the annual organization of the International Symposium "Texts and Contexts: dialogues History, Literature, Philosophy and Religion " and Day "Del cristianismo Town to Christianity medieval", the latter in coordination with it Centre for Studies and Research of the Ancient and Medieval Cultures (CEICAM), dependent Department of Humanities at the Universidad Nacional del Sur and the bi-annual International Symposium of Young medievalist. In each of these activities involve renowned specialists, both national and international.
Promotes, together with the Secretariat for Research and Graduate of the Faculty of Humanities National University of Mar del Plata, graduate courses related to different problems of the Middle Ages.
It is important work being conducted by the publications GIEM. The contributions made in the field of research, embodied in the various volumes published by the Editorial Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (EUDEM), add Publication Sources and Medieval Studies and Medieval Notebooks. Papers Chair, collections in the dissemination of valuable library materials and articulates with heuristic objectives and didactic nature propaedeutic, and their Acts to Symposia and Conferences. For the current year (2018) GIEM also manages the digital edition Medieval Notebooks (heiress medieval notebooks. Chair notebooks some of whose numbers are available for download), and it has a profuse publication of e-books product own initiatives and varied collaborations: with the Universidad Nacional del Sur, the National University of Central Buenos Aires, The National Academy of History and recently with the Universidad Nacional del Litoral.
