Purpose and objectives:

General purpose:

Create a training space, research and debate that, from Iberoamerica, promote the development of an interdisciplinary perspective on the senses and their multiple dimensions.

Main objectives:

  1. Generate international research projects and disseminate all information that may be of interest to members of the network.
  2. Build theoretical and methodological tools to understand the presence of sensoriality in historical-social life and analyze processes prioritizing this dimension.
  3. Generate a page web and within it a virtual library with the relevant production of the field and specific to each participant of the network.
  4. Provide an environment for the participation and training of undergraduate and graduate students that complements their academic training through virtual graduate seminars, student exchanges and stays, consulting with specialists.
  5. Establish exchanges and articulate activities with other universities, nuclei or programs of similar interest and scope, both public and private.
  6. Organize conferences and events related to the theme of the network. Propose work tables, panels within specialized congresses and colloquia, like ISA, LEAVE, SO, ALAS.
  7. Participate in consultancies and evaluations identifying the operation of the senses in different social settings (schools, public organisms, Business, NGOs) and other institutions of civil society.
  8. Promote collaboration and dissemination of academic production among members of the network -both individual and collective- from the inclusion of texts in the study programs, invitation to give talks, workshops, give lectures, make opinions, among others.
  9. Encourage the digital edition of the work carried out by the members of the network.

Justification:

The network aims to consolidate the Ibero-American perspective on sensory studies, Given the, although these studies have had a profuse deployment in other latitudes, in Latin America its development is still incipient and interdisciplinary dialogue diffuse due to the lack of institutional dialogues.

We consider that questioning the sensory dimension in different areas and activities of social life, cultural and political will allow us to know in greater depth the senses that are put in tension in religious spheres, labor, educational and public, both individually and collectively and socially. We will wonder about the links between senses and corporeality, senses and gender, senses and emotions, senses and affections, senses and artifacts in order to understand them both in their historical evolution and to find new analytical keys to observe and understand the social dynamics of contemporary life.

For it, we will privilege an interdisciplinary approach, taking contributions from Anthropology, The education, Ethnography, Philosophy, the geography, the history, Art History, Literature, Musicology, psychoanalysis.
